Paying for Web Hosting in Nepal with eSewa, Khalti or Bank Transfer
Paying an international hosting provider from Nepal has never been straightforward. A card that permits international transactions, foreign-currency limits, conversion charges and a receipt in USD that your accountant then has to translate — it adds friction to what should be a routine expense. Paying in Nepali rupees removes all of it.
What is difficult about paying international hosts
- Not every card works internationally. Many Nepali debit cards need international transactions specifically enabled, and some cannot do it at all.
- Foreign-currency limits. Individual annual limits on foreign-exchange spending are real and easy to reach if you also buy other software.
- Conversion cost. Between the exchange rate applied and the issuing bank's fee, the effective markup is commonly 3–4%.
- Renewal failures. An automatic renewal declined by the bank can suspend hosting before you notice the email.
- Accounting friction. A USD invoice needs converting at the transaction-date rate for your books.
The Nepali payment methods, compared
eSewa
Nepal's most widely used digital wallet. Payment is instant, confirmation is immediate, and the transaction appears in your eSewa statement with a reference number. Best for regular renewals and smaller amounts, subject to your wallet's transaction limits.
Khalti
Functionally similar to eSewa with comparable coverage. Many people hold both and use whichever has a balance. Also instant, also generates a traceable reference.
Bank transfer / connectIPS
The right choice for larger amounts — an annual VPS plan or several client accounts together. Slower to confirm (often the same working day, sometimes the next), but limits are far higher and the bank record is the cleanest possible documentation for a registered business.
Cash or cheque deposit
Still common and perfectly workable. Deposit at the branch and send the voucher. Confirmation depends on the bank posting the credit.

- The transaction reference linking the two
Hosting is a deductible business expense. Keeping the invoice and the matching payment record together makes it trivial to substantiate. If you need a PAN or VAT number shown on the invoice, ask your provider before paying — adding it retrospectively is more work for everyone.

Is paying by eSewa or Khalti safe for hosting?
Yes. You are paying from your own app to a merchant account, exactly as with any other purchase, and both produce a traceable reference. Confirm that the account details shown belong to the provider you intend to pay — check them against the provider's own website rather than a link someone sent you.
How quickly is my hosting activated?
Once payment is verified, activation is immediate. Wallet payments are typically verified within minutes during business hours; bank transfers depend on when the credit appears.
Can I get an invoice with my PAN or VAT number?
Yes — provide the details before or at the time of ordering, and they will appear on the invoice.
What if I pay the wrong amount?
Contact support with your transaction reference. An underpayment is normally settled by paying the difference; an overpayment can be credited against your next renewal.
Do you store my card details?
No. These methods involve no card at all — you pay from your wallet or bank and provide only a reference number.
