What a Web Hosting Control Panel Costs in Nepal (2026)

23 Aug 2026 · AstraCloud Team

If you run hosting in Nepal, your biggest recurring cost is probably not the server. It is the control panel licence - and unlike the server, it grows with every customer you add and it is priced in a currency you do not earn.

This post lays out the actual arithmetic, because a lot of people start a hosting business without doing it and find out eighteen months later.

The three ways panels are priced

ModelHow it scalesWho it suits
Per accountCost rises with every customer you signNobody selling cheap shared hosting
Per serverFlat per machine, whatever you pack on itHosts with dense servers and thin margins
Free / open sourceNo licence, cost shows up as staff timeTechnical operators with time to spend

The per-account model is the one that hurts in Nepal, and it is the model the market-leading commercial panel uses.

The currency squeeze, with real numbers

Take a small but realistic Nepali host: 100 shared hosting accounts at NPR 250 per month. That is NPR 25,000 a month of revenue, roughly NPR 300,000 a year.

Now put a per-account dollar licence on top. Whatever the exact per-account rate is this year, three things are true and none of them are in your favour:

  • The rate is set in USD and reviewed upward, not downward.
  • The NPR/USD rate has moved against the rupee over the last decade, so a flat dollar price is a rising rupee price even in a year with no licence increase.
  • Your customers compare you against a market that prices shared hosting between NPR 100 and NPR 500 a month. You cannot pass the increase on.

The result is a business where the marginal customer earns you less every year. At NPR 100 a month - a genuinely common entry price in Nepal, and where our own Students Pack sits - a per-account dollar licence can consume a startling share of the revenue that account brings in.

What the free panels really cost

The obvious answer is to run something free. HestiaCP, CyberPanel, CloudPanel and aaPanel all exist and all work. The cost is not zero, it is just not on a card statement:

  • Support time. Every gap in the panel becomes a ticket you answer by hand.
  • Upgrade risk. A panel upgrade that breaks a server on a Friday is a weekend, not a line item.
  • Missing business features. Invoicing, per-customer limits, graceful suspension and component-level restores are exactly what free panels tend not to have, and they are exactly what a hosting business needs.

Price one engineer-day at whatever you actually pay, multiply by the days a year you spend covering those gaps, and compare that to a licence. Sometimes free wins. Often it does not, and people only notice when they try to take a holiday.

The third option: a flat licence priced for this market

The reason AstraCloud Panel exists is that neither option worked for us. We were not going to pay a rising per-account dollar licence on NPR 100 plans, and we were not going to spend every week patching around a free panel that had no reseller or billing model.

So the licence is flat - it does not go up because you signed ten more customers - and the panel ships the business half as standard: reseller packages, per-feature limits, a storefront with invoicing, eSewa and Khalti, and suspension that still lets a customer log in and pay to restore service.

It also ships things you would otherwise buy separately or do without: automatic Lets Encrypt SSL, account-wise and domain-wise backups with component-level restore, ModSecurity with the OWASP core ruleset, ClamAV scanning, phpMyAdmin single sign-on, Git push-to-deploy, Docker, and eleven language runtimes including Node.js, Python, Go, Java, .NET and Rust.

Ask us for the licence price - it depends on how many servers you are running, and quoting one number here would be misleading.

Questions

How much does cPanel cost in Nepal?

The same as anywhere - it is a US-dollar licence priced per account, so the rupee cost depends on the exchange rate on the day you pay. That is the point: your cost is in dollars and your revenue is in rupees.

Is there a free control panel that is good enough to sell hosting on?

Technically yes, HestiaCP and CyberPanel both work. Commercially it is harder, because you will be building invoicing, limits and restore workflows yourself.

What does AstraCloud Panel cost?

It is a flat licence rather than per account, quoted per server. Contact us and we will give you a real number for your setup.

Do I need a control panel at all?

If you are hosting your own projects, no - a plain server and a deploy script is fine. The moment you have customers who need to reset their own password, add a mailbox or restore a file, you need a panel or you become the panel.
